Liverpool's Sturridge suffers latest injury
with hip problem: Arsenal absence
expected
The striker will not face Barcelona at Wembley today
(5.15pm) or German side Mainz tomorrow to effectively kill
off his hopes of starting against Arsenal in Liverpool’s first
match of the Premier League season next Sunday.
Sturridge’s problem is not serious, but it is yet another
disruption for a player whose fitness issues have become a
recurring theme.
In his absence, Jurgen Klopp’s side will line up with a front
three of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio
Mane.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is also not in the
starting line-up to face Barcelona and, while Klopp insisted
no decisions had been made on his line-up for the trip to the
Emirates, the midfielder will fear he is about to be squeezed
out.
James Milner will skipper Liverpool against Barcelona and
will again line-up at left-back. Ragnar Klavan will partner
Dejan Lovren in defence and Georginio Wijnaldum plays in
midfield.
Liverpool XI: Mignolet; Clyne, Lovren, Klavan, Milner; Lallana,
Can, Wijnaldum; Coutinho, Firmino, Mane.
Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen, Sergio, Denis, Arda, Suárez, Messi,
Cámara, Mascherano, Munir, Aleix Vidal, Mathieu
