The 23-year-old, who had a loan spell at Sunderland last
season, leaves Tottenham having made just one Premier
League appearance for the club.
We've reached agreement with Newcastle for the
transfer of DeAndre Yedlin. We wish him all the
best for the future.
Yedlin, who made 24 interceptions in the Premier League
last season, will act as a direct replacement at Newcastle
for Dutchman Daryl Janmaat, whose move to Watford
was confirmed today.
A United States international who possesses pace in
abundance, Yedlin joined Tottenham from Seattle
Sounders in 2014 but was unable to fully establish
himself at the club.
With Kyle Walker ahead of him, it was always going to be
a challenging task for Yedlin to become Tottenham’s
first-choice right-back, and he will hope to feature
prominently for Newcastle.
Yedlin featured prominently for Sunderland in the
Premier League last season, but he will now be playing
for the Black Cats’ fierce rivals in the Championship.
Newcastle have been heavily active in the transfer
market this summer, with manager Rafael Benitez
having made several signings to bolster the club’s squad
as they seek to return to the Premier League at the first
attempt.
Yedlin could make his debut for his new club when
Newcastle take on Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend,
although his transfer certainly isn’t likely to be welcomed
by Sunderland fans.
